itaek Shin, the founder and director of Exeter Academy, moved to the United States in 1986 as the first wave of a kirogi family that went abroad to study. Despite having worked in the
consulting and finance industries while in the United States, upon returning to Korea, he found his passion in teaching. Having received most of his education in the United States and some in Korea, he is conscious of the pros and cons of both styles of education. Thus, rather than founding an academy that only focuses on test prep, he has established one that places equal importance on developing students with creative and independent minds. Therefore, despite his forte in SAT Critical Reading, he still teaches and oversees Exeter Academy’s literature and writing courses.

엑시터 어학원의 설립자이자 원장인 신기택씨는 1986년에 1세대 기러기 가족으로 미국으로 이사 갔다. 미국에서 경영컨설팅과 금융업계에서 경험이 있었음에도 불구하고 그는 교육에 대한 열정을 버리지 않고 한국으로 돌아와 교육분야에 일을 시작하였다. 미국과 한국, 두 나라의 교육을 모두 경험 하였기 때문에, 그는 각 나라의 교육의 장단점을 정확히 인지하고 있다. 오직 시험준비를 위한 학원을 세우기 보다 학생들의 창의력과 개성 발달에도 중점을 두는 학원을 설립하였다. 그러므로 그는 SAT에서 가장 어려운 비판적 독해 (Critical Reading) 강의의 강자임에도 불구하고, 문학과 작문 또한 가르치고 있다.
